How do you scale operations fast without sacrificing efficiency, uptime, or operational quality? Historically, it hasn’t been easy. Whether you're managing commercial vehicles, rental cars, or EVs, scaling up means more to think about: more vehicles require more time management, more data to stay on top of, and more potential vehicle issues.
We built Volteras to overcome these challenges completely, helping businesses in fleet management to grow quickly and easily stay on top of their fleets. Our platform connects vehicles directly—without any hardware required—to stream real-time data from official OEM sources.
With the BVRLA Fleets in Charge conference coming up next week (where we’ll be exhibiting), we’ve compiled 5 common challenges faced by fleet managers today, and what we’ve done to overcome them.
Traditionally, onboarding a new vehicle requires hardware, installation time and costs, and maintenance. But when you work with us, all you need is a vehicle identification number (VIN). With this, you can connect EVs—or any supported vehicles—directly to the Volteras platform. No dongles or physical installation are required, and there’s nothing for the driver to do. You can add thousands of vehicles in seconds, completely remotely.
Simply upload your VINs and your vehicles will start streaming data, live. Whether you're onboarding five vehicles or five thousand, the process is exactly the same, and just as quick.
Compatibility checks
We’ll run a check for you right at the start, so you know whether or not your vehicles are compatible with our API. All you need to do is provide a list of VINs from your fleet, along with the associated brand. We use the OEMs’ APIs to check whether the vehicles have native connectivity.
The majority of vehicles produced after 2019 are compatible. If there are any connectivity issues, we’ll identify them upfront. That way, you’ll know whether your fleet is compatible before any further steps.
When you’re scaling a fleet, you need live information to keep vehicles on the road and costs under control. When that information is either not available or not reliable, you’ll be making decisions based on incorrect data.
Volteras streams data from vehicles as frequently as every five seconds—including metrics like battery health, state of charge, fault codes, mileage, and location. All data is pulled directly from OEM systems via official integrations, which means it’s consistent, high-quality, and always up to date.
We currently support 30+ OEM integrations, with official partnerships with Mercedes-Benz, Ford and more. Our platform is designed to handle mixed-brand fleets, so no matter which brands you operate, you’ll see them all in one place, with standardized data and formats.
Breakdowns are expensive and, at the very least, inconvenient. With predictive maintenance from Volteras, you can stay on top of your vehicles to minimize unplanned downtime and avoid service interruptions.
Vehicle diagnostics and predictive maintenance alerts
Our platform uses telematics data—from odometer readings and usage patterns to sensor warnings—to predict when maintenance is due. So instead of waiting for a check-engine light, the platform might flag an issue with the motor based on subtle performance changes.
These early warnings let fleet operators fix problems during scheduled maintenance windows. You can also monitor live and historical fault codes, service schedules, and predictive maintenance signals.
Crash detection
If a vehicle has crashed, we’re able to detect this immediately, without the driver needing to communicate it. We receive a number of different endpoints from OEM APIs that relate to crash detection, ranging from collision to airbag deployment status.
Battery health monitoring
For EVs, Volteras provides deep battery analytics, including state of health, charge cycles, and degradation trends. This helps extend asset lifespan and gives you the data you need to plan replacements, resale, or battery servicing proactively.
We also offer Volteras battery health certificates to stamp secure and reliable ratings on EVs for buyers' peace of mind. With real-time data pulled direct from the EV, you can rely on certificates being up-to-date and accurate. You'll be able to set prices for vehicles that are ready for remarketing and make sales more quickly, without hardware or manual input from the driver. Read more about that here.
Vehicle data you receive needs to be fully accurate and reliable. If you need to pause charging across 1,000 vehicles for a grid event, for example, or send commands across your fleet, you can’t afford lag, downtime, or gaps in coverage.
We stream data via OEM-approved, authorized integrations that ensure the data provided is reliable, secure, and up-to-date. This high-resolution data gives fleet operators peace of mind that it’ll be streamed continuously, and insights are reliable.
Because we use official OEM integrations, that takes away the risk that your service will get cut off by a software update or OEM policy change. Other providers use unofficial methods for data streaming, which can cause outages and delays.
Our data is secure, stable, and secure as it’s compliant with manufacturer standards. Read more about the difference between official and unofficial integrations.
Managing rental or shared vehicles across locations can take a lot of time and resources—especially when handovers, vehicle access, and charging coordination need to happen in person. Volteras removes that friction with remote access and smart charging tools.
Remote vehicle access
With Volteras, fleet managers can lock or unlock car doors remotely using our API—no physical key handovers, no need for on-site staff. Whether you're running a rental service, car subscription model, or short-term fleet deployment, this allows you to manage pick-ups and returns flexibly, even outside business hours.
Command and control features
Our platform supports a wide range of remote commands, including starting or stopping charging sessions, immobilization, and setting smart charge schedules. This gives rental and shared fleet operators full control over vehicle readiness—whether it's ensuring a car is fully charged before pickup or adjusting charge timing to avoid peak energy rates.
Streamlined, secure operations
Because our platform is integrated directly with OEM systems, all commands are transmitted securely and without delay. This simplifies operations and eliminates vulnerabilities common in unofficial systems.
Our customers span delivery, logistics, rentals, and enterprise fleets—and they all use Volteras to simplify operations, cut time to deploy, and increase visibility—all on one platform.
Whether you’re expanding to new geographies, scaling your EV footprint, or just adding vehicles quickly to meet demand, we can help your business scale at speed.
Because our platform is an API, it fits into your existing stack. You can feed data into your fleet management system, dashboard, or third-party analytics tools. Fleet operators won’t need to manage servers or maintain telematics units—cutting your operational costs.
We standardize and aggregate data from different vehicle makes and models, reducing management overhead and error, especially for enterprise fleets that might have cars, vans, and trucks from multiple OEMs.
By working with us, you’ll keep more vehicles on the road and have insights to make smart, scalable decisions every day.
